Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 16, 2026 · Last updated: September 16, 2026
1. Who this applies to
This Privacy Policy explains how Beaufort AI LLC ("Silver Lining," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the Silver Lining companion service, our website (silverliningai.ai), and related communications (collectively, the "Service"). It applies to the Resident who converses with the companion, the Enrolling Party (typically a family member) who signs up the Resident and receives reports, and any Facility that facilitates the Service.
2. Information we collect
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Intake information | Resident's name/nickname, birthdate, background, family relationships, routine, interests, sensitive topics, escalation contacts | Provided by the Enrolling Party during setup |
| Health-adjacent protocol information | Doctor-reviewed guidance on mood patterns, behavioral baselines, and escalation criteria (e.g., what counts as a meaningful change from the Resident's normal) | Provided by the Enrolling Party and the Resident's doctor, with consent |
| Conversation content | Text messages between the Resident and the companion | Generated through use of the Service |
| Contact and account information | Phone numbers, email addresses of the Resident, Enrolling Party, and any Facility contacts | Provided at signup |
| Basic technical information | Message delivery status/timestamps needed to operate SMS delivery reliably | Generated by our messaging infrastructure (Twilio) |
We do not knowingly collect more than is needed to provide the Service described in our Terms of Service.
3. How we use information
We use the information above only to:
- Configure and operate the Resident's personalized companion;
- Generate periodic plain-language reports to the Enrolling Party;
- Apply the doctor-reviewed escalation protocol and alert the Enrolling Party when it is triggered;
- Provide full conversation records to the Resident's doctor on request, for clinical review;
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the reliability and safety of the Service;
- Comply with legal obligations or respond to a genuine safety emergency.
- Sell, rent, or trade personal information to any third party, ever;
- Use conversation content for advertising, ad targeting, or to train models for any purpose beyond operating and improving Silver Lining itself;
- Share personal information with data brokers;
- Use manipulative engagement tactics (e.g., guilt or "don't leave me" messaging) — our companion is designed to let every conversation end cleanly, with no engagement-driven dark patterns, and we do not collect or use data to optimize for engagement over wellbeing.
4. Who can see what — tiered access
Access to information is limited by role, matching the tiered-consent model established at intake:
| Role | What they can see |
|---|---|
| The Resident | Their own conversations, and (on request) an honest answer about who else can see them |
| The Enrolling Party / designated family contacts | Periodic plain-language reports and mood/wellbeing summaries; real-time escalation alerts when triggered; full transcripts only if the family and Resident have agreed to that level of access at intake |
| The Resident's doctor | Full conversation transcripts on request, for clinical review of the Resident's wellbeing and the escalation protocol |
| The Facility (if applicable) | Only what is specified in a separate written agreement — by default, facilities do not receive conversation content, only confirmation that the Service is active for a given resident |
| Beaufort AI LLC personnel | Limited operational access needed to run, maintain, and safeguard the Service (e.g., responding to a reported malfunction); not routine browsing of conversations |
We never share a Resident's conversations with anyone outside the roles above, except as required by law (e.g., a valid legal process) or in a genuine emergency where sharing information is necessary to protect someone's safety.
5. Service providers we use
To operate the Service, we rely on a small number of infrastructure providers, each of which processes data only as needed to perform their function for us, under contractual confidentiality obligations:
- Twilio — SMS/text message delivery
- Anthropic — AI language processing that powers the companion's conversation
- Cloudflare — website hosting and delivery
These providers do not have independent rights to use Resident data for their own purposes (such as advertising) beyond what is necessary to provide their service to us, under their respective data processing terms.
6. Data retention
We retain conversation content and intake information for as long as the Resident is actively enrolled, plus a limited period afterward to support continuity of care, family reporting history, and legal/documentation needs (for example, a documented record of the escalation protocol that was in place at a given time). [Specific retention period — e.g., 12 months post-termination — to be finalized.] The Enrolling Party may request deletion of a Resident's data after enrollment ends, subject to any records we are legally required to keep.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including restricting access to conversation data to the roles described above and relying on reputable, security-conscious infrastructure providers. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we do not treat this lightly given the sensitivity of the information involved.
8. Children's privacy
The Service is designed for adult Residents, typically older adults in memory care or aging in place. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or the relevant age of consent in the applicable jurisdiction).
9. Your choices
- The Enrolling Party can update, correct, or request deletion of intake information at any time by contacting us.
- The Resident, or the Enrolling Party on their behalf, can stop the Service at any time (for SMS, standard opt-out keywords such as STOP also apply).
- Family contacts can ask us at any time who has access to a given Resident's information — we will answer plainly, matching what the Resident has been told.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes affecting how Resident data is used or shared, notify the Enrolling Party directly before the change takes effect.
